Asterios Polyp

I had read Asterios Polyp at this weekend. This is a unique graphic narrative because of its specific narrative. In this work, author use three skills to enhance contrast and complete the narrative. Firstly, the author showed same details or places with different situation to connect several parts of story and to give audience a contrast. For example, we saw the living room of Asterios’s house several times. And we will receive significant and clear information from author when every time we saw it. We are able to know Asterios’s situation depend on how clear the living room is and the color author use to draw the picture. When the first time we see the room, there are lots of cloth and trash on sofa and flood. Audience are able to realized Asterios’s terrible mood. We can also see the living room other two times, like the period before Asterios met Hana and the period he living with Hana. When those time, his living room is clean and have some romantic things such as flower. ...

Tom Tykwer

I saw two films which was directed by Tom Tykwer named Perfume (2006) and Cloud Atlas (2012) this weekend. And had seen the movie Lola rennt ( 1998) a few month ago, which is another film Tom directed. The director obviously has his own unique shot langrage and editing method. Tom Tykwer tend to use a kind of rapid clip to though the plots and expression actor’s mind (always be protagonist’s). He cut and connect several items which are seems like separate but actually have some connection. The final work looks like a sequence of photo slide or montage. For example, when Jean-Baptiste Grenouille come into old flavorist’s cellar, he sees a mass of raw material of perfume like this first time. In this case, the common shot in many other film is panning slowly to show materials. But Tom Tykwer use his rapid clip to show every part of materials separate even without using Shot-Reverse-Shot. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

This vacation, I read Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’s script. And I suggest myself as a costume designer of this film. I will choice several major elements to build a style for everyone firstly. For example, I will give Clementine Kruczynski a tattoo and her colored hair to emphasize her passionate personality and living habits; I will keep the color of Joel Barish’s cloth have Low degree of saturation, it will help audience to understand his lukewarm and cowardice. Also, it will give Joel and Clementine a contrast of color. And then, I will write all background information and design custom basic on those.   For example, Howard’s cloth will be more expansive than others because of his position, and he always wear business wear such as shirt and doctor’s overall. He has a briefcase which contain his computer, car key, home key even his children’s grade report; Joel always with a car key and a notebook.
