I saw the film True Grit , the 2010 version. At the beginning of this film, Mattie Ross, who is the protagonist, says “you must pay for everything in this world, one way or another.”, and “there is nothing free, except the grace of God.” These quotes indicate her values and her determination. Also, I believe it implies the key of this story and of this world. Everyone pays some sort of price in the end. Tom Chaney and other robbers pay their lives; Mattie Ross loses one arm and her horse’s life; Rooster Cogburn can only travel with the Wild West show while he's old, and no one sees him after he dies,except for Mattie. The world in this film and novel looks completely different from our real contemporary world. The world feels like grim reality to me. Almost everyone has no sympathy, such as the businessman and Grandma Turner. Although they speak of compassion, they were still stingy and indifferent. Reading always help me relax myself and enjoy a good time when I have free time. Sometimes, it also can help me calm down when I feeling depressed. I often read variety types of novels, and history book such as Drum and bell also make me crazy about it. Full-length novel tends to make me feel more satisfied than short story. When I was a young child, I prefer fantasy novel such as Ugly people . And after I became a high school student, the book The Ordinary World give shocked me a lot.
